Hi
I've a tiagra compact hollowtech 2 crankset running a 9 speed.
Can I put a 10 speed equivalent 105 crankset on?
Basically, does it matter that its 10 speed?

Thanks

It will be fine. Any particular reason for the change?
  • Putting the tiagra on my commuter as the sealed BB and rings are worn on that bike.

Makes sense. FWIW 9, 10 (and 11) speed chainsets are generally interchangeable, whatever the manufacturers claim.

Upgrading from Tiagra to 105 isn't really an upgrade as the only real different is the finish of the cranks. I'd swap the BB if worn, but keep saving for something like Ultegra or a carbon crank where you start saving a chunk of weight.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

IME any chainset upgrade will be very marginal. If you need to replace it then fair enough, but do not do so expecting huge/obvious gains.

    tiagra 4600 are not hollowtech

    105 5700 are hollowtech

thats the latest version of each

pray tell how tiagra 'can be' ?

    fitting not construction.

and in this case it is just about the fitting.
