Loose BB Shell - Help!

Had an issue a few days back as there was play in the cranks. Cranks were tight, so tightened BB and went with it. No improvement. Took off the cranks again and saw there was still play even though the BB was now tight.

The BB Shell (where the BB screws into the frame) appears to have become loose from the frame, you can see it move even when the BB is in tight and when the BB is completely removed. It even seemed to rotate a little bit when pushed around.

The Bike is a felt F5 (2010) and only used 105/ultegra BB30s (english thread).

Anyone know of this happening with carbon bikes/what it means for the bike? I've already contacted merlin cycles where i bought it from 2 years ago. Does it mean the frame is a right off, or is it possible to fix (safely though!). I can't imagine it's the easiest part of the bike to sort with a carbon patch anyway!

Thanks for any help

Ok cheers, looking into it felt have a lifetime frame warranty, so hopefully that should be covered under it!
  • They will want to examine the bike so u will probably need to send it back to Merlin or arrange delivery to the place where they examine it.

Well worth getting Merlin to sort it out for you. If they aren't doing it just contact felt directly.

    Good luck

Not good but not a total disaster. The bottom bracket sleeve can be re-bonded back in place. Not a DIY job, but one of the carbon frame repair outfits would do it for not a lot money.

It happened to my LOOK 585, it went back to France to be sorted.

ok, thanks for the advice, if i can get it done under warranty that would be best - I contacted carbon bike repairs and they said they could only do it if the shell can be removed, which isn't the case, hopefully then felt will have to give me a shiny new one as a replacement!
