Ok - firstly has anyone got one of these new 29er trances?
I have a demo booked for 3 hours on Saturday on the X 29er 1 version and I can't wait :-))
The problems start 'if' I fall in love with this bike!
A - because the 1 version is slightly out of my price range! Only just but I am still stretching none the less!
B - there are no 1 versions available until may!
So my question really is - would I be wasting my money on the 2 version of this bike?
Any advice would be great and even other bike suggestions within my price range.
There are no reviews anywhere on the X 29er 2 that I can find yet!
Cheers all!

I wouldn't buy the 2. Very poor spec for the money. I looked at one in a local shop and it's not good for the price.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Assuming that the 29er is like all the other Giant bikes the frame will be the same across the range. So, the best one to get depends on how much you like the components and whether you are likely to upgrade. If you are the sort of person who likes to tinker with their bikes then you are as well going for the lower spec and changing what you don't like. You can always stick the "nearly new" bits on ebay and may end up with a bike with exactly the spec you want for less than the price of the higher spec model (although it rarely seems to work that way). If, on the other hand, you just want to buy a bike and ride it then the higher spec may suit you better.0

I did that with a Reign X. By the time I upgraded the transmission to SLX, fitted mission control compression damper and dual flow rebound to the fork, replaced the wheels and Push tuned the shock it had cost me an extra £1200.
The standard X5/X7 transmission and Elixir brakes will get you about 50 pence on ebayTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

If version 1 is just outside your price range... haggle!
Other bikes to check out that operate in this range are the Whyte T129s, Specialised Camber Comp and of course the Canyon Nerve AL 8.9.
There was a WMB review of 2k full sus 29ers back in December I think, it did not include the Whyte or the Canyon but the Trance came out on top. MBR did a similar review and the Whyte came out on top (although I don't think the Trance was compared, nor the Canyon).Norco Sight Killer B

Never pay full price for a Giant. You should be able to get a discounted 2012 modelTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

The downside in this case is that the Trance 29ers were new for the 2013MY.
But otherwise, yeah, Pauls Cycles or JE James will have previous years models (Anthem 29ers and Trance 26ers etc) at reduced prices - but maybe limited sizes. How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

By September they will be discounted by at least 30% if you can wait. It's depressing to see the model you bought at full price a few months earlier for sale at bargain basement prices.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

They usually sell out of popular models by May and then seem to find a load of them to sell at a huge discount in September. I might buy a Reign this year but I'm going to wait until they are discounted at the end of the summer.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
