Hi all

54 yrs old - "relatively" fit - not ridden a bike since I was at school!!! (Seriously)
Just bought myself a Boardman comp and surprisingly haven't managed to fall off yet. Want to have a go at trail riding but feel I may need a little (lot) guidance. Does anybody know where I could get 1 to 1 tuition in/around Trowbridge/Bath Wiltshire area.

Thanks

I'd just get out and ride! Too early for tuition I'd say, start on the easier trails, start easy and get used to your bike first.

Chris Smith does instruction in the Frome area.

I have had a couple sessions with him and he does start at the most basic skills and work up to more technical stuff at a good pace to suit your ability.

There is also a club based at Longleat which does a weekly night ride and occasional events and rides away: http://www.blackcanoncollective.co.uk/

And a club based on Salisbury Plain: http://www.spambiking.co.uk/
  • MBSwindon do skills courses. £20 per session.

2013 dates not added yet but will be coming soon.
  • You could also come along to the social rides on Friday nights at The Croft Trail in Swindon. Loads of people there who would be happy to ride round with you.
  • I started on a Comp, great bike.

I was 43 when I started after not been on a bike for about 12 years and certainly no trail riding before. Just get out and have a go, dont be afraid to get off your bike and push until you are more confident. A lot of obstacles look worse than they are and can be easily rolled over. You will find a lot of people saying that obstacles are harder the slower you take them. This is very true, some of the offs I've had are because I've been over cautious and taken things a bit too slowly!

What you need is "bike time" to get your confidence up!
