I have dt swiss 622x14 wheels on my cube

Picked up a spare 622x15 as a trainer but it needs truing up as catches my brakes on certain areas

But with the quick release brakes closed it just touches the rim all the time

Is 15 the mm width and a single millimetre make such a difference in clearance or not

you already said that the wheel is not true - so the rim width is somewhat irrelevant, no ?

Either the wheel is out of true, not correctly dished i.e. centralised on the hub or the brakes aren't aligned correctly. A 1mm difference should make no difference, or simply screw the brake cable adjuster in a turn or so.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Well it only catches at certain points
But to my surprise it doesn't spin at all when the brakes are closed versus my other wheel

Isn't that the point of brakes :?:

How close are the pads to your current wheels? If they are say 1mm then you can see where this is leading :D

With the quick release brakes open wide I've managed to get the wheel free spinning, so here I come turbo trainer :)

You know brakes can be adjusted right, and not just the quick release?

Hmm no, I just thought the quick release lever was just for open and close, didn't think of it being an adjuster aswell (such a newbie :) )

the qr lever IS only for getting wheels in/out

there's usually a barrel adjuster where the cable housing meets the brake caliper, turn the adjuster to increase/descrease clearance until it is about right - if the cable is too tight for the wider rim, you may need to slacken it off a smidge

if you're unsure how to do these things, this is a good reference...

obviously brakes are safety critical, if you need to slacken and reclamp the cable and you're still unsure, get someone to show you how to do it
