Google maps over lay for garmin edge 810

Hi someone told me that I could put the google maps overlay on to my edge 810 is this true and how? i have base maps 1:50k ar the mo

    I also have the discoverer 150k maps thats what I need for road riding rite? Sorry it's my first garmin still getting to grips with it all :-s

    The discoverer is great, and will work fine for road riding as it's fully routable. As long as you make sure your course is set to show you the turn by turn directions.
    If you're new to this on the garmin 800, then it can be a bit confusing.

    I wouldn't use OSM on the 810 - it seems to cause random crashes. It drove me up the wall and I ended up returning it and buying an Edge 800 instead, I wish I hadn't sold my old 800 on eBay when I upgraded!

    Re overlaying Google Maps, it's called BirdsEye imagery and AFAIK you purchase a license and upload the imagery from the Garmin BaseCamp software. I think it allows you to try a small area for free.

    having owned a Garmin 705 since they first came out, a week ago I upgraded my OSM maps to the new OSM 1:50k maps from http://talkytoaster.com/ukmaps.htm and used them today for the first time, bloody hell what a revelation, these new maps are unbelievably good and free.
