I wanted to know if anyone has tested these or has a set? Any opinions welcome :)

I've agreed a good price and I'm just about to put a deposit on a set. I've been looking for some race day wheels for a while. I recently picked up an S-works Venge and I've got a set of Fulcrum Racing Quattros as my day to day hoops. I'm using them for sportives and Ironman races.

I'm not overly bothered about weight as I'm doing my best to lose 2st/28lbs body weight.

Any help greatful :):):)

  • For race day, get some Planet X AL 30' so you don't have to worry too much... Or get them built for you with Kinlin rims and some Taiwanese hubs for under 200 pounds

I have the 7900 wheelset. They do everything I want and more. They're very robust and run as well as they did 9 months ago when I bought them. I wouldn't upgrade unless I were seeking perfection or wanted to run an 11 speed group.

Take a look at these two links:

I hope they're as good as the 7900 wheelset. The other point in those links is I could pick up a discounted set of 7900 C50's (I'll have a look what's available)

You see all those expensive shiny bikes at races, them is sponsored riders. Or people with more money than sense. Go for the Planet X AL 30' s or some chinese carbon tubs for around £200

Great wheels. There aren't enough spokes and truing them is going to be a bloody nightmare, but at the moment i don't care. Combined with latex inners and open paves I feel better on a bike than ever before and have a seriously narked cycling partner because all of a sudden I seem to be able to hold much higher speeds than before and he's being left behind. Can a set of wheels do this? I am told no, but that's what's happening.

SUL's suggestions are far more sensible and it's a lot of cash to spend. No doubt I look ridiculous on my C50s because I can't justify having such expensive wheels.

As I said before, though, I don't care - they are great.

Why are people recommending 30mm for someone who does IMs? If anything the OP will benefit from a deeper section wheel.

It is a difficult one as UK based Iron Man are often run on hilly courses... on the other hand, shorter olympic triathlons allow bunching up, so a TT bike and various aerodynamic appendixes are a waste of money and time for both types of event.
They only make sense for road TTs. The latter are a bit of a funny discipline... often run at very early hours to avoid traffic, on the dullest stretches of A roads to avoid bumps... they are an acquired taste and their popularity is still a mystery to me... but then again, so is the popularity of chips butties and beans on toast...

I'm aware as I do around 30 TTs a year. As far as weight is concerned, even something as the PX 50mm carbon tubs are lighter than the 30mm.

Me neither, but because they do it wrong... in restaurants they are afraid of using raw eggs... it should be done with raw eggs and a tiny bit of mascarpone, not with a big slab of the soft cheese... it makes a lot of difference and that way is absolutely delicious... you have to come over and I'll make you a proper one...
