Anyone in Ireland done bike 4 work scheme. Its different to the UK scheme.. But I have heard stores will sell you cash now and then refund you back when you get the voucher?

anyone heard of this. seems a good way to get a sale bike now rather than wait until end of march?

My employer did not sign up so someone I know did it for me. The filled out a form and a PO was raised by their employer. When the bike arrived I picked it up, I assume the LBS was already paid. I had 2 options, pay what was out standing or pay a small amount each month. I can not remember what the montly fee was, around 20 euro I think. The person who took up the scheme was on the higer tax bracket so all I had to pay was 480 euro for a defy 2. The Defy was 985 euro new so just under the 1000 euro limit.

Thanks for the reply, I was really trying to find out if it was common for shops to allow you to buy the bike today for cash and then refund you when the voucher comes through via the scheme. In the UK version, I can't see this being popular as the bike shop will have tax implications along with fees to the scheme operator. The irish scheme looks slightly different.

A friend of mine is keen to secure a 2012 bike and the shop is implying she can buy it cash today and they will refund her when she gets here bike4work voucher. seems odd to me.

They simply may not process the sale and the keep the cash separate until the voucher appears. If it doesn't appear then they will process it. It secures them a sale now rather than March.

Decathlon did this for me. I think it's up to the shop you're dealing with.
