had an off on saturday morning, and tore a hole (about the circumfrence of a lager bottle base, maybe a bit smaller) in the front of the thigh of my bibshorts, fractionally off the seam.

now should i just chuck em or would a home made repair job work and allow them to be used for 'worst wear', or will the repair job just fail itself.

if they were cheap ones id just bin em but as they are £100+ castellis, id thought id ask, to see if any one has any experience of fixing them or trying to?

also made a small hole in my diluvio gloves...dont suppose anyway they can be fixed (although still perfectably servicable apart from the impact of the hole on the concept of the glove material

I worry for you...using lager bottles as a reference point for sizing :-)

If they were mine I would just accept they are foooked and buy new ones.

  • A pair of my bibs were torn in the washing machine when a thread got caught and I just use them on the turbo now. If you can't repair them and the hole won't get any bigger on its own, you could try that.

Don't be afraid to tell the truth. You bent over and you split the ar@e crack in them. Lay off the beer and stop being a lardarse and it wont happen again.

Serious note. Lycra can ladder like a stocking if you dont repair it right so best just but new ones. Chances are they will deteriorate after a few washes anyway.

after a crash, i had multiple holes on the thigh of some castelli body paints

insurance got me a new pair, so i used iron-on wetsuit repair material to patch the old ones and they became my commute shorts, it worked very well, survived a several hundred washes

For the gloves, which are neoprene like a wetsuit, you can glue them using wetsuit repair glue. Will only work if no material is missing from the hole so the sides meet, if you get what I mean?

I repaired my overshoe after an off using Black Witch glue, which if I remember correctly I bought from Wiggle.

My wife stitched up a hole in the front of my bib shorts with a needle and thread. Its held very well after several months of use.

  • As above, take them to a repairers and see what they can do - but once fixed resign them to your training bibs and then invest in some Rapha/Assos so that you have the free crash repair service.

Hmm, although it might be worthwhile dropping Castelli an email to see if they can fix them at cost.

take them to a good seamstress, if you have one in your town that is.
  • we ride to drink dont we?!

i was concerned my arse was going to be hanging out, but thankfully just the front of the thigh got damaged, i would have been annoyed to have to call out another pair of bibs as was only a few miles into the ride , had it been

thanks for all the advice, i wondered if castelli did a repair service, seems not an advertised one.

re the rapha/assos repair service does anyone have experience of that? how comprehensive is it, does it cover any damge or only specific..say what if the dog chewed a hole in something, would that be covered...(i appreciate i could google this probably, but im being lazy and getting it out of the horses mouth is better) may have to get some assos ones if i make a habit of coming off. (i cant buy rapha, despite it being the best... the BS behind the brand is too cringeworthy...puts tin hat on!!)
