clean the freehub on Elite now it's clicking LOUD
Cleaned the bike and the freehub over the weekend, gave the bearings a bit of wipe and some oil. wheels are running nicer now (probably placebo effect). But the clicking is LOUD now. is it normal? I am not one of those who likes the loud clicking noise. is there a way to suppress the noise?

Depends on the freehub, some are louder than others.
A freehub often gets quieter as the grease inside gets gunked up. The fact that you have cleaned and regreased it means it is probably running as it should. Also likely that you used a lighter grease than originally used which also makes a difference.
Start worrying when the clicking stops :shock:Yellow is the new Black.0 -
That's normal... the level of noise is related to the lubrication. Thick lubricants make it silent but also less effective, thin lubricants make it louder but more responsive. I use 3 in 1 oil, the solution to all problems that cannot be solved with gaffer tape...left the forum March 20230

Hang on, do you mean the wheel is a Mavic Elite? If so you MUST put oil back in the freehub body or you're going to get one helluva screeching noise when you freewheel at speed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5arUG3iy0Q0

oiled the bearings, didn't bother with the bushing. I didn't think it was necessary...as it just forms a seal with the freehub. everything is fine just the pawls are louder nowRoad - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg
