My TT bike *should* be more aerodynamic than my road bike, in some small part due to the shape of tubes, wheels etc etc but mainly because of the position it puts me in. I'd guess I make up >80% of the frontal area of the system, so frankly even if the tubes were round and the wheels low profile, it would probably still be more aero (whatever that really means) then me sitting on my R5.
I have been open minded about this when recently looking to buy a new bike.
Put a set of deep rims on any bike is going to make much more difference to its cd than any foil shaped downtube or seat tube. Bikes, being a collection of tubes and holes, will never be aero or even close to it. If they show any signs of improvement, it will be only in a direct headwind.
In the end I got a Boardman SLR, which reading above is probably under engineeredBoardman Elite SLR 9.2S
