How do I prepare my new bike for it's first ride?

I'm due to take delivery of my Canyon Nerve CF this week (although I won't hold my breath). At the risk of sounding stupid, what should I do to protect the bike before I take it out for the first time (not least because the weather will no doubt be rubbish)...

- do I need to apply lube anywhere or is it not necessary to start with?
- do I need to apply carbon paste anywhere?
- do I need to apply loctite anywhere?
- do I need to apply anti seize anywhere?
- should I put helitape on the top tube (or anywhere else)?
- anything else?!

I've waited long enough for it to arrive - want to take as good a care of it as possible!

Thanks

  • I'd say, when it comes to bikes directly from the factory. lub the chain with some dry lube. Carbon paste on the seatpost (will avoid slippage) and anti seize before you mount your pedals. I'f you're really looking to inspect how well the bike prepped anti seize chainring bolts, grease bottom bracket and torque the bolts.

    Good luck with awesome ride!
  • Thanks Chris - can't wait!

Adjust the suspension, saddle height and controls and ride.

    I love making new friends.
I thought my advice made more sense than trying to grease an XT BB.

This is absolutely everything I had to do with my Canyon, after I'd fitted the bars.

  • I'd say check the indexing. My front mech was miles off on my canyon but most seem to be ok. Refer to fox website for info on the suspension set up as you won't find much in the canyon manual, unless its changed!
