Alternative Stem for Giant OverDrive 2 Headset?

Anyone managed to swap the "issued" Giant contact stem for an alternative aftermarket stem compatible with the 1 1/4" Headset?

Is it possible to fit a shim to a Thomson 1 1/2" stem?
