Here's my faithful old commuter steed, transformed from a 1993 Diamond Back Apex Race MTB, only the frame remains.

Looks like Ti, but it's triple butted Cromo with a kind of ti finish.

DA rear mech with close ratio 9 speed 21-11 DA cassette

Middleburn RS8 crankset, small ring removed

Triple Ti Eggbeater pedals

Chris King front disc hub and Hop Mono Mini brake

XTR shifters

Pace rigid carbon/Mag fork

Avid Mag V-Brake

Easton CT2 carbon bar

Singletrack Solutions bar ends

Slick tyres

Seatpost stuck in frame at right height so no need for seat clamp!

8.75kg

Wouldn't swap it for the world, it's the fastest town machine there is!!

Why is it in the pool? Looks like a budget porn shoot.

Like it, like it a lot :)
  • That is pretty cool!
  • Cheers chaps.

It's amazing to think that this is now almost 20 years old. I did my first ever MTB race on it at the Malverns Classic, probably around 1994/5, rigid fork (the DB one, not the Pace one you see there). I remember being shaken to bits!

The frame's had about 3 different groupsets go through it, and 2 suspension forks. The CK headset must be a good 15 years old, and it's still perfect.

The BB is square taper Ti Race Face, again 15 years old ish, just replaced the bearings once.

Funny to think that if I put the frame on Ebay, I probably wouldn't get £50 for it, but it's worth thousands to me!

A bit like Triggers Broom...had it man and boy. Only had 15 new heads and 7 new handles :-)
    Yellow is the new Black.
