Hi all this year i am going to be taking part in longer rides than i have been doing. Around the 100 mile mark.
I am looking at buying bars and gels to put in my saddle pack for training days.
Anybody know of any good deals on the net ATM, have seen 20x38g high 5 gels unboxed for £12.99 posted.
Anything better that i have not seen? :D
If so can you let me know
Thanks in advance

Saw this in the bargains thread in commuter forum:

Only gel I have ever used was in my hair when I was a 15 so cannot comment on quality.
  • I got a few high 5 racing packs I think they were called with a number of gels, 2:1 and 4:1 drink powders and a few other things for around £5. I think it was from discount supplements (do a search to confirm).

I try to avoid the caffeine loaded ones - make me feel a bit hyper (then down) post ride.

unless you *really* don't care about the taste or consistency, which vary a lot, i'd try a few first to see which you prefer

personally i like the high5 isogel orange, there are others that just make me gag

ribble are often ok, pbk too, but it varies with offers and any voucher codes you can find

Worth checking out Sportpursuit.com as reasonably priced bars/gels come up there every couple of days.
  • Not as many gels as the current PBK offer, but comes with a wider range of gels, bars and zero tabs:

Although currently cheaper at Amazon - bought some last week and they were supplied by Discount Supplements:

    Cannondale Synapse Carbon Road
    Cannondale Synapse 105 Disc
    Boardman Race Road
    Boardman Team CX
    Specialized MTB
  • Thanks for all the replies, have bought some High 5 to see what they are like and will go from there!

Give a few makes a try and see what suites you. I like SIS, but I used to use Maximuscle for ages before swapping.

    Different people like different makes.

+ have had a few things from these guys & some of the deals are OK.

Or you could try these people - http://bikefood.com as they tend to do quite a few deals

  • I have just ordered some High 5 products from www.dolphinfitness.co.uk The cheapest place I could find, they seem to be highly recommended aswell.

+1 for Dolphin Fitness. I got some gels from them last year. Good prices and no delivery issues.
  • Just bought some of these from Amazon PhD Protein Flapjack Berry Flavoured 75g Nutrition Bar 24 Bars £20 ish. Nice taste.

http://www.probikekit.com/uk/energy-nut ... ottle.html i have used both of these recently, can get over run with bottles(min order 3) and good for try the high5 range so tried the race pack brought elsewhere but not £5 now, again min order 3 so if you like the high 5 worth buying as get a lot of stuff and has expire date 2014.
  • 50p ish is a good target price for gels. The High 5's are pretty good, but not as tasty as Torq Banoffe Pie!

Gels at £1.50+ each is a bit rich for my liking though, no matter what they taste like....I reckon they must cost about 10p to make.

Like their rhubarb & custard ones as very nice, but didn't realise they do a banoffee pie flavour - now I want some, just not at £1.50 a gel.
