Buying from Ribble

Hi,
I just bought a Gran Fondo frame from Ribble's clearance list. It was less than half-price and was listed as having a chipped head tube that had been repaired but still had visible damage. Well when it arrived I had a look for the damage and quite honestly you would need a microscope to see it and even then only with a lot of imagination. To all intents and purposes it's pristine.
To complete the story, I wanted to use some gift vouchers to part pay for the frame and at first they refused but then relented as a (one-off) concession. Then there was some confusion about the forks needed (tapered or not) and you can't usually buy matching forks separately from Ribble, but they emailed me to say they had some from a display bike I could have for less than half price. All in all most satisfactory. I felt morally obliged to post this given that they get roughed-up a good deal on this site. On this occasion at least, I can't fault them.

Credit where credit is due, I too have had pleasant experiences buying from Ribble!
I'm glad it all worked out for you, Dominicg!
Would be nice to see a picture of your new bike on the forum! ;-)0 -
I've never bought a bike from them but have bought a lot of parts and clothing and they've always arrived correctly, undamaged and on time. I know others have not had the same experience but I've always found them to be very good.0

I wanted some tyres and they were out of stock. Signed up to be notified when they were back in stock.
Got an email about week later duly stating they had them.
Ordered Tues and they arrived today.

I work near ribble so tend to pick things up that I've ordered. It's always nice to look at the bike porn on the walls! I've bought from them for years and not had a single issue. I had a minor problem with my R872 stealth frame recently and within days they just got a new one out of stock and completely rebuilt my bike for me (I did go over it with a fine tooth comb afterwards). All in all I think they're pretty damn good, and nice knowledgeable chaps when you speak to themEverything you see on TV reflects, accentuates and perpetuates the worst of the human ego. Watch the news tonight and see the separation, persecution and retribution rained down on our fellow man. We're all mad0

Decent enough, but wiggle/CRC and even bike-discount.de get stuff to me quicker and usually cheaper (not by much, but...).
I keep wanting to upgrade the roadie, but the cheap as chips Ribble Winter frame i ve got is excellent, has taken some serious abuse and is covered in scratches and chips, but still rides fine. I just can't justify spending 3 grand on something that won't be any better...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I'm a bit surprised by that. Aside from the random ultra bargains you can get anywhere at times, generally I find that the normal prices Ribble charge are almost invariably cheaper than CRC or Wiggle. The main issue I find is that the less exciting items seem to often not be in stock at Ribble.Faster than a tent.......0 -

That’s three bits of good news:
They sent you an email to say tyres were in stock.
They arrived quickly.
You bought some real tyres
Ordered some tools last Thursday – they arrived the next day. I love Ribble.0 -
Nice to see a thread with some compliments about Ribble (often easy to complain never to compliment), I have to say my experiance has always been good, recently had a problem with my 1 year old frame, took it in (as travel around) said it would be about a month as had to send back to deda 2 weeks later and while over christmas, had a warrenty replacement frame and had built it all up ready for collection.
Cant fault anything they have done for me including the original order.0 -
