Just wondering what peoples experiences are with them, i.e. pros/cons etc. Just interested because I could not find much around about them.

  • What are compressive bib shorts? Bib shorts by nature are a compression garment, or is this a specific company?

It's companies such as Skins. Their garments provide compression on the muscle to apparently reduce muscle fatigue and aid recovery.

"Snake oil" there were studies that showed that compression clothing makes no difference to performance
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

That doesn't mean people who've bought them won't use anecdotes to "prove" that they do.
  • I ordered some because they were a decent price in the sale and looked a good quality pair of bibs, thanks for the replies! I read that they are supposed to help with recovery etc. Also one of the manufacturers stated that they increase power! haha. I wonder....

There was some evidence floating around a while back that compression clothing could help recovery, reduce DOMS etc - can't remember where I read it or if it was 'proper' evidence or not.
When I used to run a lot, I'd have ice baths and wear compression tights after long runs and it seemed to help me.

That said, you wouldn't be wearing bib-shorts to recover in - and wouldn't all decent lyrca shorts offer some measure of compression anyway?

so the fatter you are (higher compression ratio) the more they reduce muscle fatigue and aid recovery?

    Just takin' the pi55 :D

Yeah or that the quality of them for the price was better than other non-compressible bibs.

Having once had the experience of wearing a pair of bike shorts that were too-tight, this resulted in reduced blood-flow to my quads and whereas I could usually ride local hills all the way up at a certain intensity, I'd run out of legs half-way? Took me a while to work out that the common factor was skinny Giordana shorts.
When the likes of Castelli are producing the lightest shorts possible, it seems counter-intuitive to produce shorts that could restrict your muscles - it's also the same reason I prefer padded bib tights in winter rather than wearing regular lycra shorts underneath - it certainly feels like I expend extra effort overcoming the clothing.
