Garmin 800

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have just purchased an 800 so I'm new to this kind of tech. I want to use it when walking in the Lakes as well as riding. If i purchase the 1.25 OS maps for that area how do i go about plotting my route on a PC to up load onto the 800. I have a general idea how to plot a road route on Garmin connect but the detail isn't good enough for off road walking or riding. Is there something I'm not doing

Download basecamp from garmin, load your map onto the pc and the 800.

You can now plot a track offline using basecamp.
