So tomorrow I am finally going to see a specialist about the below shoulder pain I get from cycling. I only get it on the left hand side and always in the same exact spot, on my last 100mile sportive i resorted to carrying ibrupohen gel and rubbing it into the area every so often. However, this didnt really work.
Before anyone can suggest things to do I have tried to strenghten it, improve posture and just ignore it but non of it seems to work. I also bought a new bike and got a bikefit from LBS to try and resolve the issue but no Joy.
I am therefore visting www.bodyfixclinics.co.uk in taunton to try and get the pain sorted once and for all.
I am also taking my bike so he can have a look at my riding position to try and determine if the pain is caused by just me or the riding position that I currently use.
Fingers crossed he can work out what the problem is and suggest ways to resolve it as it really puts me off long cycles.

I had to go and see a remedial specialist last week. I was experiencing a pain when touching my knee, ankle and big toe. The specialist quickly diagnosed a broken finger
Good luck and hope you get sorted. Let us know how you get on“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -

So i saw the specialist yesterday and I am very pleased on how it went.
First of he had a look at me on my bike on a turbo to see if there was any problems there. He explained the machine and showed me that I had a pedaling efficency of 68% and that my legs are putting out a pretty much equal amount of power, although my left leg was pushing out slightly more than my right. (explain this as I am right footed). He advised that a computer would cycle at 100%, a pro would train all their life to get top 80s bottom 90s and an average club cyclist should cycle between 60 to 75%. Therefore, he was pleased with the efficency level I was currently at, considering i have only been cycling for a year.
He then recorded me on my bike and showed me the results, slowing them down or pausing them and drawing lines and angles on the screen to show where I am going wrong. Firstly I am putting my power transfer down to late, I need to ensure that the pedal is level as it starts to reach the top of the cycle. At the moment, my heel is raised(from pulling up) almost until the pedal is halfway down the downstroke. The secound thing is that I need to bend my arms more as they are very rigid. The final thing is that my hips are very tight and need losening.
Overal he didnt beleive that my position or cycling is causing the pain.
He then had a look at were the pain is and straight away said he could feel it twitching and mentioned that I had a scar in the same place as the pain. I explained that is were i had a mole removed about 7 years ago. He seemed to think that was the cause of the pain, that when they removed the mole they must have aggravated the muscle and sent it into shock. Since then it has never recovered and I have never felt pain untill i started cycling.
Anyway after a massage and some freeze spray followed by deep heat, he taped it up to support it. I also have exerises I need to do and keep applying deep heat to it. I was told the pain is actually from the scar tissue on the muscle and not the muscle its self, as the scar tissue doesnt expand like a muscle does it just tares.
Overal i would say it was well worth the £40 for the 1 hour session and I would defo recommend bodyfixclinc if anyone has any problems or for a bike fit etc.0 -
£40 for that sounds like a steel. Ive an op on monday - but if that doesn't sort it - I might pay these guys a visit - even though its miles away0
