Hello all, got bitten by the bug at the end of last summer, went to my LBS, they had a Specialized Tarmac Sport 2013 on display and I just absolutely loved the frame, anyway cut a long story short I went ahead and bought the bike but with wheels upgraded to Fulcrum Racing 3s (2013) and a full Ultegra groupset, I did pay a tad too much I know, but I absolutely loved the frame. Anyways what do you guys reckon? Will try and upload some pictures soon.

  • If you can afford it, buy it. Some people will look down on you for riding a flashy bike at a slow speed or sling 'all the gear and no idea', but the only real caveat - and it is a very real one - is that you need to allow for all of the other associated paraphernalia. I'm sure you've factored that in, but if you're buying a bike in that price bracket it makes sense to spend properly on clothing as well - Riding a >£1000 bike in Sports Direct shorts makes very little sense to me.

i am trying my best to get in as much riding as i can, what with work, young family and good old British weather it can be difficult, anyways i hear what you're saying in regards to bike wear. These are the extra bits n pieces i did get:

Mavic Plasma SLR Helmet in black
Specialized BG Comp 2013 road shoss
Endura merino wool baselayers and jerseys in both l/s and s/l
    Finisterre merino zephyr longjohns
    Specialized radiant 2013 winter gloves
    Specialized wiretap long fingered gloves
    Ayup lights (really love them)
    Lezyne micro drive rear light
    Ultegra carbon spd sl pedals
Oakley flak jacket glasses with black polarized, hi yellow and clear lenses
Gore phantom Windstopper jacket with removable sleeves
Gore GT AS Goretex waterproof jacket
Specialized carbon rib cage (matches the frame)
Specialized mini wedge saddle bag (in black and white so it matches the frame)
    Continental GP4000s tyres
    Cateye v3
    Endura merino skull cap
    Merino wool buff
    Specialized flex airtool
    Specialized water bottle

i know i went a bit crazy, i did do as much research as i could, a lot of the stuff i bought because either i really liked it and matched the bike or because of budget constraints. I know i could've spent my money more wisely, but you live and learn hey. Hoping for positive and constructive comments/feedback so i can enjoy my new hobby and increase my knowledge and riding skills and spend more wisely in the future.

By the way went out riding today, bloody windy or what, at times was scared shitless, came home after a 2 hour ride and was really glad went out riding, i get really annoyed when i miss a opportunity to go out riding.

    Happy and safe riding all

I can see the envy from a few guys here as I look out at the cold winter night and look at the green haze wafting in :)

Interesting, in your eyes do you see this as malicious or benign envy :?:
  • Benign on my part

As long as our newcomer enjoys his riding and makes good use of what he's bought, then good on him.

Speaking personally, I feel physical pain when I spend money so I did it bit by bit to ensure i didn't kill myself

Looks like youve kept the bike shop in profit this year - so that cant be a bad thing ? Happy riding.
  • Hello, thanks for all the positive comments, I did buy all that stuff over a 4 month period and from many different places, I did do a lot of shopping around to bag good deals and offers and did save quite a bit, thanks to a blunder by staff at a very well known nationwide bike shop I got the gore jackets at a very good price.

The oakley glasses I got from a Internet retailer at a very very good price, just slightly more than the price of the polarised lense themselves, then I started reading all these horror stories on the net about cheap fakes and all that and I got really worried. I took the frame and the polarised lens to a oakley dealer in the city centre and he checked them out and said that the frame and polarised lens was legit, phew.

I am thoroughly enjoying my new hobby. I ride as much as I can and I always come home after a ride feeling well brilliant, although the stuff I have bought is pretty decent I'm not the type to upgrade these bit n pieces just for newer models. I'm hoping they last me a good few years, I thought if I spent a bit more now then I won't have to spend again so soon. Anyway I admit I do like nice stuff, who doesn't?

I'm very busy lately and haven't got round to taking some pictures and uploading them, but as soon as I can hopefully i will.

Happy and safe riding to all
