Have just bought a Specialized Roubaix SL3 Expert. Am looking at completing a few sportives along with a 4 day 400 mile charity ride. Was thinking about upgrading the wheels. Any advice was looking as some American Classic Aero 420 3.

I have the AC's and they do spin up quickly and are nice and stiff (so no flex when putting the power down, hills etc.)
The only real draw back for me is that they do feel slightly harsh but this is typical of wheels with a low spoke count.
If I am totally honest, although they are fairly light and stiff there is a price to pay, and that is longevity of components. The hubs are particularly small and the bearings need replacing more often that others - although not expensive.
Parts are readily available though, unlike some other brandsYellow is the new Black.0 -
That's a pretty serious bike - are you sure you're a "beginner"? You might be better off on the more full-on roadie forums (fora???)

PX carbon clinchers. Unless its windy.0

If you want to include tyres in the £500:
Mavic ksyrium elite s wts
or
RS80s and latex tubes and quality lightweight tyres
If you want to blow the lot on just the wheels, I'd get something handbuilt by someone like wheelsmith or some other reputable wheel builder.0 -
Go handbuilt. I did, and have nothing but praise for them. mine have dura ace 9000 hubs, H plus one rims and other bits of mysterious magic that help me get up hills and descend much better. you could get hope hubs and all the bits i did ( not neccesarily a downgrade btw just noisier). get in touch with Ugo....!0

In fact correctly spelled, and if you knew that, you might have some idea what I was talking about.
