  • Mercian, Brian Rourke, Dave Yates, Paul Hewitt, Thorn if you want steel, Enigma or Kinesis if you want titanium, aluminium or carbon fibre. Genesis is a British company but I'm pretty sure that they make their bikes offshore; likewise Kinesis, Thorn and Hewitt. (I think)

There are many to choose from, though.

er... prepare your deep pockets.. (this is not your first bike is it...? ) prepare for a bit of patience if you order and have it built..

Depends what you mean by 'British'. There are plenty of UK companies assembling bikes entirely from imported components, including the frame (e.g. Ribble, Planet-X, Boardman). Some of these have the frames made to their specifications, others just put their brand on generic frames. If you want more than this, you'll need to go to a specialist frame builder, like one of those mentioned in the posts above. Most of these are relatively small operations that build custom frames to order from steel tubing, and there may be a waiting list that runs into months. Bob Jackson ( http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk ) is one company that also has a range of semi-custom 'off the peg' frames that are cheaper than the hand-tailored options. Nearly all of them will put together a complete bike with your choice of components. There are quite a few British wheel bulders, and of course you can choose a Brooks saddle, but the groupset will obviously be made abroad - if you choose Campag, at least it will be made in Europe!
  • Thanks for all the info guys this will help me out massively. Although a full custom build could be out of my price I can certainly look around. Thank you
  • I've gone for a Shand skinnymalinky myself after hankering for a steel frame for a while now. One of the reasons I went for them was their delivery time, I really wanted it for this spring and some lead times are fairly lengthy. I'd love a donhou but back in early Dec he told me it was a 10 month wait.

  • I know a few people who have custom built bikes from here :

They're quite good by all accounts but it looks like carbon might be out of the question.

Apart from the Beru / Aston Martin bike, British made carbon frames = vapourware
