Fitness 5 or Sirrus?

Having upped my weekly commute and found out my Rockrider 5.2 will cost more to service than I paid for it I am in the market for a fast but robust flat bar commuter.
I am looking at Decathlons Fitness 5 or the Specialized Sirrus.
I would welcome informed thoughts on such a choice!

The main thing the fitness 5 has carbon forks the basic sirrus and neither does the slightly more expensive sirrus sport. The spec all round on the Fitness is very good, you could look at the boardmans but just be wary of Halfrauds occasional dodgy build ups. The Trek FX range is worth looking at as well. I am looking to sell my 2011 Sirrus very shortly so if your interested PM me.
hi many thanks for this
i'll check the trek and bare your sirrus in mind0 -
Apart from the odd choice of brakes, the Decathlon is, on paper, the better specced bike, 10kg as this price is amazing.0

I went for the Fitness5 or badged Forme5.. Check out my sig for what I've done to mine.
Have just got back from its 6month service at Decathlon (Sheffield), apart from a couple of spokes which work themselves loose on the harsh roads there is nothing that needed doing and its getting close to 1700miles in the last 10 months.
The only serviceable parts I've changed are Chain & Brake blocks.
Fantastic value for money0 -
Hi
Thanks every one - and yes Matt I found your indepth look at Fitness 5 really useful.
Have bought the fitness 5 and have to say i am delighted. A really inspirational ride and speeds I would never have imagined...
I have to say i really love the design of the bike
your help really pointed out the bags of spec for the money particularly the carbon components of the frame. I am amazed how the front forks seem smooth the shock of the the thin tyres
again thanks everyone for your help0 -
