Headset bearing cover

I'm installing a works components angleset on my Intense build and have somehow managed to lose the upper bearing cover. 
Are the covers manufacturer specific and work in conjunction with the compression ring etc or are they pretty much generic and just prevent grot getting into the bearings? ie if I can find an old but of another make will that do
