Hi all,

I was knocked off a 2010-tiagra equipped machine the other day. Thankfully the only damage to the bike was the left hand lever, which is proving difficult to replace like for like. I've had an eye on eBay but until now it's not thrown up anything useful. What are my options for double left hand levers if I'm not bothered about matching old for new, just not having to buy a full set of levers to just use one?

Be aware that Sora/Tiagra shift in different ways, the Tiagra (and above) uses the lever to shift up and down as you know, whereas the Sora uses a thumb button to drop down and the lever to shift up.
  • You can get the left hand 105 from CRC for 55. For all intent and purpose it will be the same as tiagra
    Road - Cannondale CAAD 8 - 7.8kg
    Road - Chinese Carbon Diablo - 6.4kg
  • If you go for the new 3500 Sora shifter it will fit exactly the same as your old Tiagra, it will look fairly similar in shape, and uses the paddle to change now rather than the old thumb button style.

You can get the 105 for a bit of an upgrade, but you'll have to replace the bar tape as the gear cable routes along the bar like the brake cable, whereas the Sora has the gear cable sticking out the side of the shifter like your old Tiagra which is worth noting.

not true, only 5700 has internal gear cabling. the 5600 shifters are side gear cables just like tiagra 4600, matter of fact the 6600 and 7800 shifters are all side gear cables

the 5700/6700/6900/9000 series are all internal routing of the gear cables. basically all the new gen of shifters

R700 is basically the 105 5600 series lever with a shim that you can pop in or out to adjust reach. I've got one matched with my 9 spd RH tiagra lever after the left hand one jammed. Exact same hood and lever shape just without the gear indicator. You can just unscrew the old lever from the clamp and refit this one, no need to bugger about with re-cabling.
