I'm looking into options for summer trips to the alps. I thought it might be fun to hear some disaster stories or advice on what to avoid.

The black runs unless you are very competant. I've stood and watched many others being heli-lifted away whilst we were lucky only to sustain bruises.0

But I echo the thoughts about not black runs.
As for example, Glentress Red is harder than some blacks. Well it is the same principle but a lot bigger difference0 -
Last weekend in June, it's the passporte du soleil and it's busy (assuming you're not intending on riding the PDS of course).....
