Worn out Cassette?

what is the chain wear? or what was it on the old chain if you have just changed it?

its an old cassette ive had for quite a while, the chain i used with it originally is long gone, since had the bike converted to a hybrid with a 12-24 cassette, now converting back to mtb, and wondered if this was the problem.0

I would say 90% chance it is. Whenever the cassette is worn out you NEED to replace the chain along with it as they both wear at the same rate. If you don't do this you could ruin the cassette/chain faster then normal.Part time weight weenie0
