Can anyone tell me if GT 85 is a chain lubricant or what exactly would you use it for on your bike.

    not really and nothing much.

not bad for putting on a cloth for wiping stuff down with.

Its great for removing limescale staining from glass shower screens!
Not very good at lubricating a chain, however it will work as a rust preventative.

Good for cleaning same as WD40- especially crud catchers as it seems less mud sticks to them afterwards. IMO it is marketed as bike product so it costs 3x WD40 (ok it smells nicer too). The main difference seems to be that it contains teflon. I don't use it much- still have can which was Halfords "good will gesture" last April.

+1 for cleaning. Good for freeing up gummy shifters, cleaning grease off hub parts (before applying new grease!), generally removing muck from things etc.

Good for displacing water, off your chain after washing before lube

Good for keeping water off things, like bolt heads.

Not a lubricant. No good on chains or bearings.

I use it after cleaning, to spray on bolts/clamps/exposed metal bits. Chains & bearings & forks get their own proper lubricant.

It has light lubricating properties, hence the addition of PTFE. But too light for many things.

Good for blasting crap out of outer cables.
  • I spray some on a cloth & wipe the frame down. It might be the placebo effect but it seems easier to get the mud off after a ride.

I use it on the chain after a wet ride to stop it rusting (assuming I can't be arsed to actually clean the bike)

Indeed, useful for egtting water off after a wet ride (or washing it) prior to lubing correctly.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Agreed with the above, perfect for this
  • Keep it away from your fork and shock seals. GT85 will attack the rubber.

TF2 leaves a thicker coating and is better for spraying on pedals, mech etc....

It's great for getting tar of car paintwork.

Actually GT85 is harmless on rubber, it is WD40 that will swell seals.

I also use it to disperse water From my chain after cleaning and then allow to dry before putting proper chain oil on.

This is what I use it for as well.
