Ok, I've searched but didn't find anything specific to my question, but I'm looking for a thorough bike fitting service in the Greater London area. I haven't heard great things about the BG fit so don't fancy going to Specialized and Sigma only do a pretty basic service from what I recall.

Cadence Sport get the best recommendations on here I know, but it's a bit far to travel just for that so I'd rather get the next best thing a bit nearer to home.

  • I'm Kingston way but can easily get around the Surrey or SW London area.

Don't any shops near you as I don't live there or use the bike shops there.

maybe try the cyclescheme website to find the LBS near you and go on their website to see if they do a fit or even call them up.

You are not liking the BG fit cos it is not done on the computer right? so you are after the Retul which is computerised measurements. One thing to note is that anyone can press a few buttons and get the computer to tell you X,Y & Z and no experience is required. where a physically measured fit will generally require a level of expertise.

  • I've just read many mixed reviews of the BG fit hence my scepticism. The other bike shops around here just do a basic fit with the naked eye and a measuring tape, the sort of thing you get free with each bike purchase.

is supposed to be very good. I have no personal experience but have seen a lot of very good reports. If I lived in that part of the world I'd be tempted to give him a try...

    Not cheap though!

    holy crappers...that is quite expensive...£235 + £60 for a second bike...ouch!

the retul ones charge around £150 and second bike configuration is free of charge, or at least that's what the bike shop person told me. but i went for the traditional fit near me at the end.

I visited the Bike Whisperer about two years ago. Expensive but worth every penny.

I visited the Bike Whisperer in September last year, having visited some half dozen fitters across the UK and even one in USA (I was getting desperate). I can tell you that the Bike Whisperer was absolutely the best, and had a refreshing, no-nonsense approach. Sherritt is one of only a couple of Steve Hogg endorsed bike fitters in the World (Steve Hogg is an Australian bike fitting guru). I cannot recommend either the Steve Hogg website http://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/blog/2011/02/seat-height-how-hard-can-it-be/ or The Bike Whisperer highly enough. Worth every penny. I am riding more fluidly, more powerfully and more comfortably than I have done in 20 years :-)

i had the BG fit and it was pretty darn good, I was pleased with it, riding nice and comfy. But I don't really have any perspective as I haven't fitted anywhere else.

My colleagues went to the Bike Whisperer before their London2Paris thing and rave about it.
  • Another recommendation for the Bike Whisperer. Had a bike fit there last year (winter months easier to get an appointment) and returned last week to have cleats fitted on new shoes and Sherritt really helpful again. Money well spent I say.

Another happy Bike Whisperer customer. Scherrit (and Corinne) are amazing people - very enthusiastic and really know what they're doing.

They fitted me on my main bike - which I have now ridden many 1000s of kms on (including some 1000km+ rides), and I really don't suffer any of the issues I have had in the past with knees and hands etc.

Well worth talking to them. You'll soon see that they are rather good at the whole bike fitting thing.
  • Cheers all, looks pretty unanimous so I'll give the whisperers a call.

You're in Kingston and you haven't heard of sigma sport?

Their bg video fitting is worth every penny. £150
  • I mentioned them in the first post.

Constantly tweak and change for years hoping they could find the right balance of comfort and power.

Doh! Serves me right for skim reading...

I can't compare with others but the bike fit I received seemed pretty detailed to me and made a massive difference to my triathlon split.

    Full measurement.
Checked sitting bones for correct saddle.
    Checked leg strength and flexibility
Checked all body angles and adjusted bike accordingly
They video you on the turbo trainer and point out bad habits and where to improve.
Checked cleat positioning and adjust accordingly.

It took around 2 hours in all and Jimmy was very knowledgable and helpful.

Velosport in Putney. I recently had a good Retul fit there which sorted a couple of niggles out and changes to position were really positive. Previously had fits at Cyclefit and Bike Whisperer. I'm sure if you have never been fitted then any of these will provide noticeable improvements though Velosport or Cyclefit would be my choice.
