Another recall. Snapped steerers on a Tarmac have prompted this

  • Interesting, I have a 2012 SL4 Sworks.

£100 of vouchers sounds quite nice, but it's quite a long trip to my Specialized dealer......

I'll have to wait for the French official statement to come out.

Snapped off at the headtube. The guy got away with a broken shoulder/collarbone.
  • Nasty. Just found the French recall, and have to say I'm not surprised that they're offering 100 Euros, as opposed to £100, i.e. 20% less. Skinflints.

Worst thing is, looks like I'm going to be without a bike for a while, and I don't have a spare, and that really sucks.....

In the USA they are offering 100 dollars, so its obviously just 100 of the local currency.

Bet the Japs are really peed off. 100 yen is about £13 I think

    Taken my Cruxs in today.

My dealer is getting a batch of the repair kits from Specialized so will do any modifications required on site which should speed up the process- I have been promised that the bike will be ready to pick up by next weekend so 5 days at the most. Better to get it done now while the weather is bad is my thinking.
  • This sucks big time.

Last time I ordered a special tool from my Specialized dealer it took 4 weeks to come in. No way I am handing over my bike to them, so they can send off the fork, to God knows where (one site suggests the US), while I wait patiently with no bike.

And besides, I don't want a 40g plug put in my fork steerer.

Here's my position; I'll forfeit the 100 Euros if you just send me a fork that works without a plug. Then I'll whip out the crap one and send it back to Spesh. Job done, no down time.
  • I got mine sorted and just popped it to the local specialized dealer they had a load of forks ordered in ready and mechanic swapped it over gave me a call 30 minutes later and was all done, plus £100!
It shouldn't take weeks to get it sorted!

So did you actually get a new fork or did they just 'repair' your old one?

Took mine into the Covent Garden Concept Store this morning. I was told Specialized are sending out fork boxes today to the shops and then the shops will send the forks to Specialized in the UK. They are aiming for a 48 hour turnaround from receipt of the forks. Apparently they will know which forks are affected from the serial numbers, so hopefully I should either get the original fork or a replacement fork back on Thursday.

Dropped my front fork off at Covent Garden today.
Here's hoping for a 48 hour turnaround (as they said that they have to send them to Specialized HQ to be inspected/checked).
Was assured that if I needed new forks, they would be the correct colours (2012 S Works frame in carbon/red/white)

Just spoke to the store - it's taking longer than expected as Specialized only sent them the fork boxes last Friday (!), and some forks were sent on Friday, the remainder on Monday.

I thought that a 48 hour turnaround was a bit optimistic....

This is exactly what I was afraid of. My local Specialized dealer (I didn't buy the SL4 there) is useless and I can quite easily imagine phoning a week later to say 'is my fork ready?' and to hear the reply 'er, we haven't sent it off yet' Doh!

So, I'm waiting for my 2 week holiday to arrive at the end of Feb, and I'll drop it off then. Even they can't %^&* it up that badly, can they?!

That was why I thought I'd go to a Spesh concept store becuase I thought that they would be up to speed with the whole thing.
The person I spoke to in the Store said that Spesh UK had underestimated how many forks were going to be sent back (which seems odd, as they must know at least the min no of SL4's sold via franchised dealers)!

Just had a call from the store - my forks are back and ready for collection! :-)

(Don't know whether they were replaced or not)

Got a call as well. New forks apparently. Will pick them up tomorrow.
  • I think Specialized have a serious issue with their forks, my 3 month old base Allez has had the forks replaced already.

    My forks were replaced
Guy in the shop said that on the S Works models he believed that Specialized were just swapping all of them out
