A sad 22 miles

Just completed a 22 mile ride, and I was a little sad at the end.
This will be the last ride on my Spesh Allez Sport 2013 (bought off another forum member), now I didn't realise how attached you could get to a bike, I've loving cleaned an re-lubed it each time it's been out, upgraded the wheels an groups set to 105 and few other bits and pieces.
But now it has to go (ill post it for sale soon), My brother in law decided on Wednesday to treat himself to a new Scott foil Di2 ultegra for his birthday and gave me an offer I can't refuse on his Scott Addict R3, unfortunately I can't keep both.
This bike has served me well for the past 4 months, and as I say quiet sad, but onward and upward, I really can't believe how attached to it I am!

Why not relegate the Spesh to winter duties?.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0
-
Wow, a whole 4 months?0

rode my allez for 3 years and about 23,000 miles, rode a better bike for a few weeks and tried to go back, stripped it down then some scally stole the frame from the garden, I don't miss it, you'll find something more fun to ride and soon forget0

Why don't you burn it and keep the ashes? The alloy parts should melt into a nice ingot and you can probably have it engraved with the Specialized logo for little money
Just a thought...left the forum March 20230 -
What size is it ?

After you ride the Addict you'll soon forget about the Allez.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

Naaah, once a melted Specialized starts to cool the metal rolls together and it reforms itself. You can't destroy a Specialized.....Faster than a tent.......0 -

I know but it was too good an opportunity to pass up, I'd would have kept it a while otherwise.Cipollini Bond

I'm going to post it in the classifieds next week, but its virtually as new, with Mavic wheels, 105 (5600) group set, a new unused Spesh saddle (keeping my prologo one), Spesh carbon wrapped seat post, 2 Spesh water bottle holders fitted and 1 brand new Spesh water (only bought for me last week as a birthday present, as I didn't know I would be changing it).
It's a 54 (medium) is the flat black/ red colour.Cipollini Bond

Thanks for that, but unfortunately I now will have to completely re-think the wheels I was going to buy from you now.Cipollini Bond

Wow,
Do you find a lot of things upset you?

I can relate to that.
Last week, in need of some cash, and tired of constantly moving the thing around the garage, I stuck my 2011 Trek 1.1 on eBay. I've hardly ridden in the last 12 months - probably no more than 80 miles all told, plus short trips to the shops.
Got a good price for it, and broke it down and boxed it up for the courier. Felt no emotion at all - it was a dependable enough thing, but didn't inspire much affection or beg to be ridden in the way the others in the stable do.
And yet, still felt a pang as the courier marched off down the drive with it in a box.
That was my bike, my first proper(ish) roadie...0 -
The original post got me thinking as I have a pair of grey socks upstairs and during the week my big toe went through one of them. My wife says right thats them for the bin, I would have agreed , but after reading the opening post Im feeling the most heartfelt sorrow about not having that pair of socks in my future.
Im just away for a little cry upstairs.2012 Cannondale CAAD 8 1050 -

Oh the anguish, you just cant keep your cherished mistress, just because you have been given a hybrid. Well if the damn Allez is such a massive part of your life that you needed to post this then bin the Hybrid and keep the Allez, or is the Hybrid your secret lover, and you have been cheating on the Allez all this time.
You are allowed to ride with your son one the Allez you know!0 -

Jesus don't ever get a dog. It really will kill you when it departs. I have an addict (and 8 dogs) you will love it amazing bikes0

it may not melt but may be all is not lost, recycle it with this tool, i,m sure you could make some nice pretty coloured creations0

If you melt down the spec, make sure the metal goes to better use. Like making coke cans.0

Well until recently I had 2 dogs but 1 passed away and the other is 14yrs old so won't be around much longer, but never mind.
You lot can be very harsh, all I was trying to portray is that it is a litte sad parting with my first proper road bike, but I'm looking forward to riding the addict, glad you speak so highly of it.Cipollini Bond

Its all humour I'm sure. You'll love the addict totally different ride put some light wheels on it and it goes up hill like a rocket0

Sure your right, on both counts, when we get firmly into late spring I'll replace its Aksiums with something decent.
My brothers bike don't turn up due to nightmare snow in Accrington, so it looks like I won't be able to pick the addict up until Tuesday, (his is due for delivery monday now) who knows, I might even get out again Spesh tomorrow if ths rain clears the snow and stops.Cipollini Bond
