Why is buying good, functional kit being a tart?

Because quite possibly, you'll be getting diminishing returns on the huge amount of money you spend. Another good example are carbon bottle cages.

Ha who cares about the return, I buy kit because I like it and looks good as well as serving the purpose I bought it for..... If I wanted a good return I'd invest in something other than cycling kit....

    Kinesis T2 2013 winter bike
    Merida Carbon 1500 flx MTB

Bike, clothing and accessories are colour coordinated here... Mud
  • I think the concensus is that most of us mere mortals have to accept tgat we are never gonna be able to live or perform like an elite rider or anything approaching one, but can gain comfort & happiness by blowing obscene amounts of cash on looking good & that gives us all huge satisfaction.

We all like riding our bikes & that is why some choose to ride sportives, & some take it to the next level & race. Many just like to do their own thing, but i believe we are all, in our own little way, living the dream & chasing legends!

Unless you buy something on a bike site for £26, then sell it on ebay for a hundred :D

My sunday league football manager always wanted us turned out in pristine kit and polished boots as in his words 'If you can't play then you should at least look the part.' I like to think the wasn't aiming that at me specifically though. It's not so applicable these days however as it would mean wearing garish luminous coloured boots.

Absolutely this. Looking at gear is good buying new gear is better. I'm a new roadie and have my bday coming up and I'm
All over the Rapha website. My bike looks like sh!t at the minute with all the sludge on the road.

Received my red jagwire cables this morning and they came with gold end caps, completely clashes with my colour scheme  . Guess I'm just going to have to find some red ones now!

Of course I am. I was flabbergasted to find out I had to travel to two different bike shops in order to get a new cable housing which was RED. So that they would match the elegant colour scheme of my frame and most importantly the saddle rails.

What kind of world do we live in if one can not even buy cable housing in a colour which he specifically desires, simply because he is a tart.

This, plus I have expensive taste in all things, even if I have no idea what I'm looking at I'll always pick the one that costs the most (without seeing the prices obviously) it's a fuc£ing curse!!
One plays football, tennis or golf, one does not play at cycling

Why have you got crappy Ultegra on your bikes then? Jesus, I only have that on my third bike which I haven't washed since 2010 and only ride in the dark.

Watch their adverts. That should be enough to put you off again.
  • My favourite bike is a stately vintage Falcon. I am therefore more than eligible. ;)

However, there are many brands I would consider before Rapha.

    Guilty as charged.

A brief visit to the Fizik stand at the London Bike Show, a couple of emails later and a one off, unique custom Antares will arrive from Italy in a few weeks time. Finally, a perfect match!

43 items of Assos? That's outrageous! Do yourself a favour and refrain from adding up the costs of those 43 item of clothings!

As sad as it is ultegra is equal to my powers on a bicycle, added to the fact I'm just not as rich or awesome as you means only sh1tty ultegra for me :(

True. Keep away from bike tart threads in future.
