Right chaps and chapesses
the Crudcatcher Coast2Coast challenge is going full steam ahead, but then theres part b to consider. I'm looking into the possibility of a big party/drink/social at the end of it on the Saturday night (26th september) I think a ticketed event would be an idea with any profit going to Cancer Research, would be a great opportunity for forumites to meet up, plus anyone who wanted to ride the final day from Afan could join us for that.
Just want to put it out there at the minute to see how much interest there would be in this, so please let me know.

Hmm not seeming like a huge takeup on this idea, I'll let it run a while but it might be a non starter, which is fair enough, that's what market research is for.0

in theory, yes i'd be interested. but i doubt i'd be able to make it. especially if i've tagged along for the last 2 days of the ride. i know the gf would like to come and see the end of the ride and we couldn't get a baby sitter for overnight i doubt :?
but it is a good idea0 -
I'm in 2 minds. Part of me thinks it's a great idea, and we can raise some extra money, have a laugh, meet and greet people and have a happy ending.
The reality of it is probably that I'd fall asleep during said party after all the riding. I imagine that I'd probably just want a few drinks, and then pass out in a bed somewhere to sleep for 12 hours. Who knows though! It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I'd be pretty happy to join in the last day ride and have a beer with peeps.
Could all camp at afan and take advantage of the food there0 -
Excellent plan, but I'd veto camping.
I like camping, but after six days - I think I'm having a proper bed!How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

I was thinking the kind of party that you could have the kids there for, rather than a mad rave, looks like there would only be the odd one or two extras, so I'll get some quotes, there's a bunkhouse at Swansea, dunno how many it holds but think there's a Pub next door and the place at Goytre too, think it's looking more like a sedate drink with the odd extra crudder and partner rather than a massive party0

How about Bryn Bettws at Afan? stayed there a few times they have camping, rooms withs bunks & those wooden wigwam/hut things I think... they also have a communal area & bar facilities & food... and its on the trail0

Cracking looking place*, however, ideally, our venue would be spitting distance from the coast, as that's where we'll be finishing the ride on Saturday. It'd be 10 miles back up the trail to get back to Afan.
*seriously, having now seen the website, I might try and get in there for a short break at somepoint! How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

Ideally it doesnt unless you plan going to swansea which is further down the road, other wise your in port talbot and dude.. your own your own for that lol0 -

Stayed there too once... I was a little anxious when we checked in at the b&B as the owner looked a bit.... erm.... 'Royston Vasey'.....
other than that we had a great night on the piss, all the women had far too much makeup on and looked quite orange, but I found this quite appealing, maybe it was the local beer...0 -

Fair point, and well made! :shock:How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

The reason I've initially ruled out Bryn Bettws is because from Port Talbot seafront it's exactly 8 miles all uphill which after the longest riding day would be a killer, especially when there is a similar facility at Goytre a mile and a half away albeit lacking a 4x track but after 6 days riding I don't fancy racing bikes around.
Swansea is further but downhill all the way and inkeeping with the spirit of the ride, and also practical for people travelling by train to get back from than halfway back to Afan.
Good feedback though, shows me exactly what you want, social chill. Next question, who reckons they'd want family or friends to come meet their finish and/or pick them up, just so I get an idea for how many we're looking at accommodating, nothing binding but I don't want to start looking at 20 bed locations say to find we'd need double that0 -
I'd be up for joining you all to toast your efforts, will pop it in the diary and hope it doesnt clash with any work events that I have yet to find out about..0
-
If you can't make that, may I extend to you an invitation to the pants party........ the party....... with the pants....... the party with pants0
-
Sounds a great idea, ESP as it looks like I'm time crunched and a days riding followed by a nights drinking sounds great0
-
Sounds like a good idea Gaz. Dunno about a ticketed event but I'd be happy to chuck some money into the charity (and beer) kitty. Could even get some MTB'ing done while I'm over that way!"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0
-
I was thinking ticketed if we we're going down the route of a disco or anything like that, but as it appears it's going to be more sedate then or would just be a car of bar and bedding.0
-
I do have to admit though with regard to Bryn Bettws that the fact that it had almost limitless accomodation in terms that if the rooms run out there's camping is I big draw as it means that people can book in add and when and in the kind of accommodation they want, plus could always have a bit of a 4x Comp on Sunday.
For those interested in coming up just for the sat/sun would you potentially have vehicle space to drop riders off either at home if it was on your route or at least a major station for a train, even if it's just Port Talbot?0 -
Should be room for a bike and person in my motor as far as the port0

Some info for Crudders wishing to join us on the Saturday night
Bryn Bettws Lodge has 38 beds at £25 pppn inc breakfast, I will be making a booking next week so if you are definate and want to come to this I can book you in then, youll just need to pay me a tenner deposit. They also have one camping pod which houses 3 ppl for 40 quid without breakfast.
If you wanted to leave it later then they do have plenty of camping which could be an alternative should the lodge rooms sell out.
pm me if you are interested or get hold of me on gazderry@gmail.com or text or whatever if youve got my digits.
I know its probably too early for most to give an answer but theres the options0 -
I'll have a chat with the leash-holder and let you know ASAP. I can't imgine her saying no.How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

Will you be booking for us folk who are riding all week anyway? I'm up for staying Sat night as after riding about three million miles I shall need both resusitation and a drink...
No idea if any of my friends will want to come along for the last day but they can sort themselves out nearer the time.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

Yeah MN I was going to book in those riders who wanted to stay, probably all of us, maybe lose a couple as they live close to the finish and anyone that would be a definite at this stage such as Wags/Habs/Danielcraiglookalikeescorts etc or any other Crudders that fancy a piece of the last day action that are in a position to say yeah I can make that. Then like you say, anyone wishing to book can give Bryn Bettws a ring and book themself in or make alternative arrangements to stay and or travel.0
