Seat Post

Hoping this is a really stoopid question.

I have just got myself a carbon seat post to replace my ally one, as my route is littered with potholes, and hopefully this, combined with 25mm tyres will go some way to making it more comfortable.

My question is, do I need a different seat post clamp, one that is made for a carbon seatpost, or can I use the one that is on the bike currently.

Cheers

Just use the existing one. The clamp goes round your seat tube so the seat post material is irrelevant.

You could use some carbon paste as this reduces the amount of torgue needed to stop the post slipping.

  • Nice one Smidsy. I shall invest in some paste - any recommendations?

Well I use Finish Line but some find that to be a bit too grainy.

it is also advisable to have the split in the clamp (if a vertical slit) 180 degrees oposite the slit in the frame.

Another great nugget of advice is to listen for a cracking sound when tightening the clamp, the cracking noise lets you know that you have tightened the clamp too much.
