Looking at whistler for my honeymoon :)

Will not be until May next year - looks likely will be 1st / 2nd week the uplift is open.

The wife to be rides regularly with me, and we are both off to the Alps this summer for a holiday with trail addiction - most of our riding in the UK is trail centres - will do most black features, but nothing too gnarly (gap jumps / doubles) etc
Just wondering if there is stuff there to keep us entertained for a few days ? from the looks / descriptions it looks like we will be OK on the green and blue runs.

Would like to know the following:

1. How many days would you recommend in order to do the majority of the blue and green runs ?

2. What style of bike ? as we have to hire them we have the option of a typical xc/am bike, or a full on downhill rig - obviously we are used to riding a more xc orientated bike - but if it is all lift accessed anyway would a downhill be better / more fun ? or is it a bit overkill for the green / blue runs ?

been to whilstler twice, absolute amazing place to ride, bike park has about 60+ trails in it,but going early in the season probably only the lower park will be open, still tons to ride, grade up everything to here as in blue there = red here, but you should get a good taste in the alps this year in les arcs,i have also ridden there great spot, ask guides to take you down a couple of more DH styled runs,as for bike 150mm+ travel slacker angled rig,you can hire bikes there and you will need a full face helmet compulsory for the bike park, but think you can hire those to,have fun it's a great place, using trail addiction myself this year destination X at the end of july
  • I spent 8 weeks there in 2007 and had the most amazing time. 8 weeks was barely enough to make the most of the bike park, let alone all the surrounding trails.

For a full on DH bike, you'll love the blue's (that's like a welsh Black) and the Red's. Black really is black. XC/AM bikes will cope on the blue's just fine Green is way too tame really. A hybrid can handle those. But Blue will give you a thrill ride.

I was riding my AM bike on double black diamond's, brand new it was, then I snapped the rear end clean off on a drop.

5 days will be way too easy to fill. Don't stick to just the bike park though, the XC trails in the valley
