The council resurfaced a road to the village and put in a 80cm wide pavement on one side and a 2m wide one on the other side, so I asked one of the workmen why it was wider, he said it's a cycle path.

The road is about .5km long and goes to a roundabout where the paths end, there is nothing there, no houses. Why do we need a pavement? Why do we need a .5km long cycle path? Why would you cycle on the path as the road is smooth and the path is cobbled?

Anyway they planted trees on the cycle path and put the road signs on the cycle path so it is a bit of a slalom, BUT why these trees

  • You really couldn't make it up, could you? Where is this?
Maybe worth enquiring if road planner actually is a closet cyclist hater - what else could they have added, a nice bit of razor wire?

@ Cornerblock - is this those pesky treehuggers I've heard about?

@ Phil Fouracre - In Portugal we don't have health and safety :D

He looks like he may have gone beyond the hugging stage.

This is the main problem of cycle paths in this country. Most of these paths are worst than cobbles, seriously. Does anyone really think roadies are going to use them instead of the road?
