Hey guys,
A bit of advice required.i currently have the rp23 kashima on my alpine 160, after having a couple of probs with it which were sorted under warranty, do you think the cane creek double darrel coil shock would be worth getting or should I stick with the fox shock
Ta guys.

The RP23 is a very good shock, I had mine Kashima'd and custom tuned last year and it transform my bike, it was already a great shock but the difference was unreal, everything is much smoother, it fells taughter in the mid-stroke and its just how I wanted it to feel, a great upgrade!
If you only want to change due to the issues you had, then I'd stick with it, have it tuned if you feel anything you want to change. People assume the CCDB will transform your bike, but you gotta know what you're doing with it to make the most of it0 -
I have got a CCDB coil shock on my Scalp. It's by far the best shock I have had, far better than a Fox DHX5.
The CCDB is really easy to set up, it's actually easier than other similar shocks I have had because I can adjust the low speed damping without it affecting the high speed. There is an excellent set up guide on the Cane Creek website with practical advice on how to set it up out on the trail.
The damping is super sensitive to small bumps so you get a really good ride. I find that I can run it softer than other shocks I have had, I'm running 40% sag at the moment.
They are also very low maintenance, service intervals are every three years.
If I wanted an air shock I would take the RP23 though, it's a great shock and it will climb better with an air shock but the CCDB coil will be better on the descents, particularly on long alpine descents where heat is a problem for air shocks.
There is no pro-pedal type thing on the CCDB.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Thats a gd bit of advice you have given there guys, for me I think now the way to go is to keep it and get it tuned.
Alot of my riding is done over the north yorks moors so going by your advice the rp23 is best suited to that.
Ta again guys.0 -
If you're doing a lot of climbing get the RP23. The CCDB won't be as efficient and is quite a bit heavier.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Its already fitted with the rp23 as the bike is only 6 months old.i do attempt quite a bit of climbing but its certainly hard work on quite a heavy bike.0

It will be harder with a coil shock. I used to have a Giant Reign X with a Van RC coil shock, climbing just hurt.
Ideally a coil shock for uplift & alpine riding and an air shock for all day xc rides would be my choice on an Alpine 160.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Thats a good idea.
Not sure if I will get chance to do uplift or alpine riding.i do tend to stick more to xc riding.0 -

I too have a RP23 on alpine, serviced and kashima last year but its been a bit under performer lately and wheezing like a good un. Ive not ridden on a coil and I wouldn't wasn't to go to one for weight and climbing.
