Shimano BB tool - problems on non drive side.

I've done a couple of bb replacements using a tool I bought off Amazon. Not sure if its a cheap copy of the Shimano tool but I notice its not a very good fit on the non-pedal side. It takes a bit of 'persuasion' to get proper purchase (eg a block of wood and hammer) This persuasion has damaged the dust seal on the bb.
Works fine on the drive side - this has been the case on both bb's (square drive type) that I've worked with.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

Not sure why it would be any different, as the cups are the same pattern. Unless the trailing side of the tool splines are damaged (is it the socket type tool?)0

yes, its one designed to be used with a 32mm socket.
The drive side is a decent snug fit, not sure why the non drive side isnt - has been the case with both square taper BBs I've removed and replaced.1999 Scott Vail - Work commute

The non drive side with cartridge bottom brackets are often plastic. They require a bit more care.0

yep its definitely plastic. Its quite easy to chew up the teeth, but still, its not a good fit.
Its not a press fit bb, it screws in the drive side and theres another internal cup/sleeve on the non drive side. Not sure but I think most square drive/Shimano UN BBs follow the same design.1999 Scott Vail - Work commute

Fortunately it plastic so it will come out in bits if need be.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
