Bike bags on Easyjet

Looking to buy a replacement bike bag but also trying to work out what (not so)Easyjet will allow for all-up weight. Looking to take just a bike bag & hand luggage & cheat a wee bit by putting shoes & helmet in with the bike.
On their web-site it says:- pay for 0 bags, 1 sporting item....total allowance 1 item @ 32 kg total.
Can anyone confirm that this DOES mean max weight of bike + bag = 32kg. In the past I'm sure I've had to argue about a bag that weighed 24 kg.
Any Easyjet bikers on here?

The last 2 times i have been to Mallorca, they have weighed my check-in luggage and my bike bag which when combined = @ 36-38 Kgs which would be over-weight.
The good news is that the bike bag is weighed in the oversize baggage area and they don't know what you check-in luggage weighed.
IMHO (trust it at your peril though) as long as the bag doesn't weigh more than 25 Kgs you will be okay. IIRC 25 Kgs is the handling limit before the flags get raised.

The stated allowance for the sporting item will be the total so yes the bike in its bag.

Your hand luggage is then a separate allowance.

Get an Evoc bag. Excellent quality and mine comes in at 20kg with bike and lots of clothes, etc inside, meaning I can just go on with a carry on.

Last time I used easyjet it was 32kg for one sporting item (which includes the bag)

I used a planet X bag. Along with my bike, shoes, helmet and a few spares, it was 20kg or there abouts.

Not so. 32 Kgs including paid for checked in bag. 12 Kgs + carry on.

I think their website isn't particularly clear. They only weighed my sporting bag at 20kg. They werent interested in my other item (which was a large rucksack so I took it on as hand luggage anway)

I agree that is what usually happens but that's about what you can get away with and accomodating check-in/baggage handlers.
If they took a notion to stick you for excess baggage, you would have a hefty bill to pay.
I have heard stories of people getting out okay but being stung at the other end. You takes your chances....

I'm glad I'm not the only one is confused with this.

You are allowed 20 Kg as hand luggage, as long as it fits the dimensions should they check.
Paying for a checked-in bag only allows you the comfort of not worrying about size.

It allows you to split your allowance over 1 or 2 packages (as somethings may not pack well together). This is for the cargo hold. i.e you have to check it in and then it disappears and reappears at your destination (hopefully).

You can still take hand luggage upto the stated hand luggage maximum and dimensions. i.e you carry it on with you and it does not get checked in.

OK, so does everyone agree with Smidsy that if you only have hand luggage & a bike bag, then the bike bag can weigh up to 32 kg. That's how I'm reading it now.

I flew back to Mallorca yesterday on easy jet. Bike box Allen full of shopping 32 kilo max and hand luggage free no weight limit. I got a small bag and had 17 kilo in it no problem. It does say on the site only the bike in the bag no clothes etc but they won't check I fill mine every time, as long as its not over 32 your good to go.

Thanks for all of your input. My mind is now clear. And to Mallorcajeff, I bet I'm not the only one who's intensely envious of your predicament having had to fly back to Mallorca (poor sod!)

will also confirm the 32 kg (just flown with bike -- fourth RT on easyjet in past 12 mths). it is actually one of the best policies out there (BA is the best, as they don't charge extra although the weight limit is somewhat lower).

they *will* weigh the box, but they have never questioned me about the contents (which is all my bike kit, non-carry on liquids, etc).

the total limit is 32 kg per person. so you *could* pay for a second check in and split the weight across two bags (not sure why you would do that).

and i usually end up wearing my helmet onto the plane (in all seriousness) as they do enforce the rule that can only have a single carry on bag.
