Looking at a new budget mtb - advice needed

Currently using a 2009 Dawes XC rigid fork MTB, very lightly used until I got it 5 months ago and since then I have over 1500 miles on it with no problems. Looking to get something a little better , (besides which it is a large frame and I really would be better suited to a medium frame. 5ft 7ins and 30 inside leg), and the Carrera Valour seems decently priced and also upgrade able . Mostly commuting with just some local light woodland paths but I do a minimum of 20 miles a day on the commute alone. I appreciate that there are better bikes around but the £250 price tag really fits well with my available resource. Any thoughts / advice welcomed

Does the bike actually feel too big? Sizing varies massively. Also what parts are on the Dawes/what model?0

Model is the XC 1.0 with budget Shimano 7 / 21 speed revoshift gearing and tektro v brakes and levers0

Oh. And doesn't feel too big in the ride but need to take care on stops as top tube is right on my limit when standing. Ie. I have to off the saddle0

The Valour is going to be no better than what you have.0

Thanks for the nod on that, What about. Gt aggressor 3.0. Or Saracen Tufftrax0

The minimum in a mountain bike would be this:

For the usage you describe, do you really want an MTB, budget suspension forks are a lot heavier than rigids!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
