Hi all

heres a question for you - I'm wondering if there is an app or a website where I can enter that I want to ride, say 100 miles, on back roads, from my home address and it will then provide me with some optional routes?

Anyone know of one, or even a bike computer that has that functionality?

I've looked around and can't seem to find anything

  • I just use google maps to check routes. You can make multiple destination routes from the maps tab.

One way to do it is to start with your home address and then right click on the map and add destinations. You can have 25 destinations from which you should be able to make a rough route and estimations on back road routes and mileage.

    Hope this helps.

  • Another vote for ride with GPS , I have used it for at least 3 years to set up solo rides and download to my Garmin.
It will add turn by turn directions for you, so if you can get lost in your own back garden or have moved area it's fantastic.
  • http://www.bikely.com/ lets you look at other peoples rides that have been logged. You can input post code and refine by distance you want to ride. Of course, this fully dependant on people nearby logging rides.

It doesn't do the thinking for you, but I use http://www.bikehike.co.uk/ which shows Ordnance Survey maps. Stick to the yellow roads on an O/S map and you really can't go far wrong.

For a good bike route plotting site, http://www.cyclestreets.net/ also you to select "quiet" routes, but that's for routes between two points.

    I use http://bikeroutetoaster.com/

I find it easier to use than the others I tried, particularly for MTB stuff.

I tend to use bikehike for planning my own routes, if you want to see routes that others have done near you, Garmin connect and strava both have explore options which can give you some ideas
