Cold today!

Just been around surrey but all the fun parts were closed. Was hoping to do the regular route behind box hill around coldharbour etc but all the non-main roads were closed. Even box hill was too icy to make it up!
Ended up doing a leisurely 55, but it was pretty flat. Definitely need an upgrade from my Planet-x gloves and need to work on footwear admin as it genuinely felt like someone dropped an anvil on my foot once I got in the shower!

Respect!
I have my 90km club run tomorrow, and the forecast is 3'C and the odd shower. No ice. I am in two minds.......given your example, I should probably HTFU and get out there.0 -
Definite respect, way too slippery for my liking here. Sufferfest on the turbo this am, suspect i'll repeat tomorrow.0

The main roads are all fine.
Apparently a trick for the feet: thermal socks against the skin, plastic bag, thin socks, shoes (tape up the vents).
Just check when putting your feet down - my pedals and shoes were gunked with snow so I had to ride from there (Richmond, Sawyers descent) back home (Parsons green).

Could have been a bit quicker probably but my buddy was hanging out his arse after a mega bender last night and isn't really doing much training.
That said, the countryside is absolutely stunning in the snow. All the normal boring 'transition' roads are breathtaking covered in snow.0 -
Wouter Sybrandy made it up Box Hill via a bridleway: http://app.strava.com/activities/37980255.0

Just done 6 hours on the MTB all offroad Hampshire/Surrey/Sussex borders - 6" of snow over soft sand and mud made the average speed 11kph. Carving turns in deep, fresh snow down the Devil's Punchbowl was epic. Average temperature -1.3 degrees. Slushy roads, windchill and ar$eholes in 4x4s would have made a road ride pretty unpleasant.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I have to say it was nothing like that at all. There was a bit of slush, but the roads were mostly clear and fairly few (but considerate) cars.
What was amazing was seeing the annoying transition roads where you go from one nice road to the next were completely transformed, so even our wrong turns onto the meaty dual carriageway weren't too bad!0 -
I wimped out of the roads, and took the MTB out
Pretty chilly in Yorkshire, but an enjoyable ride. My new Sealskin gloves were brilliant, my Shimano "winter" shoes less so!!
