I occasionally use a Panaracer Trailraker (similar, slightly more extreme, mud-tyre). It's quite good for cutting through fairly loose snow, or biting into more compacted stuff. Tbh, I don't really think it makes that much of a difference to be worth changing tyres, but I suppose that depends what you have on to begin with.

Got good results today with high roller on the front and Mud X on rear.
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Ah right, googled them and reviews are good, just not much info on them in snow.
  • I have used Kenda King of Traction in snow as well as gloopy mud etc. and all other conditions too.

In short - big traction when the going gets white, but they are deeply compromised for everything else. They are really slow rollers, weigh a ton, and don't handle well.

So - if you want tyres for downhill snow and gloopy mud, they are quite good, but if you want a tyre that can do anything else as well, look elsewhere.

Went out in the snow/sludge/mud with mates a couple of weeks ago. By the time we got to the off-road (20 minutes) I was cream-crackered trying to keep up with them on their normal tyres, but in the snow I didn't fall off at all where they did regularly!

Have now invested in some Panaracer Rampage tyres which are still good in mud but will also do everything else OK too. Will only be getting my KOTs out again when everything is white with snow.

Relative to my fairly knobbly, Panaracer Rampage tyres, the KOTs gave maybe twice the grip in snow. On hard-pack icy snow they stayed put where the Rampages were moving about a bit. But, the KOTs give me no more grip on wet rock and wet tree roots. Oh, and the Panracer Rampages handle 10 times as nicely and ride 10 times as fast too (I exaggerate (a bit!)!)!
