Advice on 2 bolt SPD alignment

Is there an easy method of correctly aligning 2 bolt SPD cleats (by this I mean they're correctly placed in terms of fore / aft under the ball of my foot, but not the angle of toe in or out). I've read the one about dangling your feet off of the end of a table, but this just makes my feet toe outwards quite significantly which can't be right, especially as when I walk or dangle my legs from the saddle there's only a mild toeing out if any!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Not really, because everyone's different. Trial and error.0

I would try them first with the point of the cleat pointing at your big toe or thereabouts, this will create a slight toe-out angle which is natural for most people, and should ensure your heel doesn't hit the cranks. I tried them pointing directly forwards once and my knees were aching within a couple of miles.
But trial and error after that to see what's most comfortable for you.2011 Canyon XC 8.0 (Monza Race Red)

It's pretty crucial to get this right to avoid knee issues and other ailments.0
