Vanilla is coil sprung, Float is air, Talas is travel adjust (air-sprung). R= rebound adjustment, L= lockout, C= compression adjustment. If there's a '2' (like RLC2), it means that it has seperate adjustments for high-speed and low-speed compression. So basically the more letter and numbers it has the better it is.
There's more differentiation now too: into Factory, Performance and Evolution. Factory products have everything: Kashima coating, FIT dampers, all the adjustments. Performance has the FIT dampers and some of the adjustments but no Kashima. Evolution is bargain-basement (at Fox prices): open-bath dampers, little adjustment and no Kashima.
CTD is new-ish, but quite well explained on Fox's website.0 -

The fox evolution forks really annoy me. So many bikes for around £2k come with them, and they are completely rubbish. They are only put on the bikes for the name yet they are a useless fork and much better can be had for cheaper0

Manufacturers get Fox forks for a fraction of what you pay. Often bikes only come with Rockshox when they have full SRAM kit (RS fork & shock, SRAM/truvativ transmission, Avid brakes)
Most OE fox forks are really crap bottom end forks with no compression damper. The CTD system would put me off buying Fox as it takes away adjustment.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
