I'm not sure I'd trust the assessment of someone who presents their information like an 8 year old texting though.

Agreed. I can't commend it, just posted for interest. I'm sure others must have done similar comparisons if the data is publicly available.

    :D

It reads like someone who read a few articles on blood doping and it's effects, and now considers themselves to be an expert. I found it a bit painful to read to be honest.

Having said that, it's a stretch to believe that lance was clean on his comeback, at least for the first tour.

  • One of the first tweets on the http://live.cyclingnews.com/ live report:
Watching all the LA coverge. IMHO, he didn't cheat, the sport was dirty. The doping can be forgiven. But ruining people's lives can't.
Whilst nobody would argue with the last sentence, it's the rest of that tweet which shows some people will just never "get it".

  • Do you owe David Walsh an apology?
    I would apologize to David.

Semantics again, but not exactly admitting he owes Walsh an apology. If anyone knows the significance of semantics, it's Armstrong.

  • The tweets are more unbelievable than LA's comments:
Lesser men would be crippled by Oprah levels of shame. But lance is a survivor.
I don't know whether to laugh, cry or scream.

  • The predicted beginnings of emotion come when asked how it's affected his children and how he broke the truth to his son who had been defending him at school. And this is the only time I feel sympathy towards LA because any parent should feel emotional if they've let their children down. But I feel sorry for his kids having to grow up with the stigma attached to their father, rather than for LA himself. Sympathy, yes. Sorry, no.

Looked like he was fighting hard to summon up some tears. Didn't really get there.

I feel for his kids though.
  • And part 2 is quickly over after an hour. Aside from the betrayal of his family, this was a much "tamer" part of the interview. I feel he should actually have been pushed more for his feelings towards others, both named and (to him) anonymous, but it was not to be. Oprah is too sympathetic an interviewer, often more a councillor than an interrogator and therein lies the problem with interviews she does with shamed celebrities.

Mixed feelings on that one. I think his emotion was genuine (and I noticed his nostrils grow redder, suggesting he was trying to keep things in check), but at the same time the hand movements over his face could be trying to encourage tears.

So no, I don't think what we saw was contrived, but he may have been trying for more. Only he can truly know.

  • On the Cycling News live report, we were told before tonight's show that
Paramount Pictures has purchased the film rights to Armstrong's story*. The NY TImes' Juliet Macur is writing the book. Looks like this won't be the last we hear from Mr. Armstrong.
Please tell me Armstrong won't see a cent from this. * Who have the rights been purchased from? Juliet Macur, Armstrong (please, no) or a screenwriter?

I did see one comment yesterday which still rings true... I'm paraphrasing but it was basically along the lines of:

you can see Armstrong thinking 'what would a person say' before answering each question

I didn't feel any real emotion, just a liar telling some a mixture of the truth and some more lies to excuse his previous lies. When these lies surface he can just blame his 'process'.
  • It's all just currency for the next big deal.

Why does Armstrong keep asking his own questions and then answering them? That really annoys me.

Aah. I've seen him do it in press interviews as well. Really rubs me up the wrong way - so arrogant.

Well, Ive never downloaded a film/book illegally, but perhaps if there was a film everybody should mimic armstrong's cheating by downloading it for free, then he won't get any money from those non-sales.

I don't think I could bring myself line his pockets 1p.

Hopefully, we'll get a few free documentaries to watch soon though.

    Oprah missed a trick.

The best bit of the interview was the first minute with the yes and no answers.

Should have asked other questions then under the same format

"Where you cheating when you won the World Championships?"
"Did you chase down Simeoni to 'silence' him?"
"Was Betsy Andrieu telling the truth?"

I can't make up my mind if the yes/no questions were scripted or a genuinely suprised Armstrong. If it was the latter he really recovered well.

That's a good question Mad Rapper. If you were to have asked 'Is Lance's ability to re-engineer questions an attempt to distance new improved 'Honest Lance' from nasty and naughty 'Liar Lance' I would have to answer 'yes'.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

    I understand your feelings.

However, we might not need o worry as I've found the answer to my question, courtesy of the Belfast Telegraph:
Paramount Pictures and JJ Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, are planning a biopic about the disgraced sportsman, a studio spokeswoman said.

They have secured the rights to New York Times reporter Juliet Macur's forthcoming book Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong, due out in June. Ms Macur covered the seven-time Tour de France winner for over a decade.

No director, writer, star or start date has been set.
