Hello everyone.

I've been looking closely at this bike for a couple months now.

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-91 ... 13074.html

I'd really like a full sus which will perhaps be a bit more travel than my current 100mm hardtail so I can be more confident on rockier trails. i still will only ride UK trails centres though. Im getting a bit more confident on small jumps and small drops and would like to grow this some more.

Ive read the bike radar review which is really positive but I'm not sure whether its worth spending a couple hundred more for something like the boardman team FS or the Canyon Nerve AL http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes ... tml?b=3025. Its whether I'd get anything extra for the extra cash, and I've been more than happy with my Rockrider 8.1 so don't mind the decathlon brand.

Thanks

Not the prettiest but a lot of bike for your money.

  • Yeah it does seem to have an excess of linkages doesn't it lol.

Are my reasons for getting a full suss valid do you think? I don't want to waste my money and want a new bike to make a noticeable difference when I'm riding the same trails.

I rode a hardtail for many years (many many) and my first ride on a FS I hated it, felt squelchy. Now I love it and it's made my riding more fun, and a bit less strain on my elderly body.
    So I would....

I have one and love it,like CD says, not the prettiest but it comes well kitted out for the money.if you add another 100quid you can get the ER1 which is far better kit on it,reduced from 1300 down to 900....
I have had my RR at Glentress and Innerleithen and my mate has taken his 2k stumpy and it hasnt felt out of place.only slight niggle might be lack of rear shock lock out but its not that bad...think the ER1 rear shock has lock out,
If your looking for a great bike, great kit but cheap as chips then this will run you in good stead.....if you look at the review on here it gets a kick in the b***s away from 5stars.
Supposedly the rear suspension system is the same as YETI....but they had it 1st(dont quote me on it)
    happy shopping

  • Thanks for the tip, looks good value for £900 but quite weighty isn't it at 14.8kg.

Would having 150mm travel over 120mm travel mean I'd be worse off on my normal trails? (Cannock, some of the welsh ones).

Depends on you. I ride a 100mm full sus, slowly because I am unfit, tubby and slow.
My son rides a 150mm FS, he is young, fit and brave, and rides really fast, everywhere.
We mainly ride XC (on the slightly gnarly side).
His party trick is to follow a bunch of roadies up a Radnor Rd, a steep hill leading to the top of Holmbury Hill, cruise up behind them and then power past. They normally put in some effort and catch him before the top, but it's really funny watching them.

not sure how the extra travel would affect your riding.....but for 800 you'd be lucky to get a hardtail with kit like that on it.

I can only comment on the boardman full suss which ive owned and its a great bike. Id have one again and if you keep an eye on ebay you will get a mint 2nd hand one for 700ish due to people getting them on the cyclescheme and just wanting the cash. I paid £750 for an unridden one.

I've got last years 9.1 and it's great. I've not got a huge amount of experience with decent MTBs but I like it and it's made my quick blatts across the chase more enjoyable.

One of the things I liked best about the Rockrider is the lack of pivots there's only one fat bearing to replace, which for a slacker type is a bonus when it comes to full sus bikes.

I should probably get a single speed belt drive fat bike with the amount of maintenance I do.

Great spec for the price my Sensor retails for £1400 and hasnt got the spec of that although i only paid £750 .

prawny im with you on the lack of maintenance i tend to wait until i hear grinding or rattling makes me really popular when my bike breaks when out on the trails with mates ........

    Amen brother!

I rode a sportive last spring with the bearings in my back wheels clunking and grinding the whole way round, got some right funny looks off the MAMILs it seized solid the following week. Shoddy design though, the sealing was terrible.
