You could just carry a pack of tacks in your jersey pocket and throw it into the road behind you when this happens.
  • Ride properly (primary position and reasonable pace in these circumstances) - sounds like you are
Make room for the pass when it is safe and appropriate to do so. You have as much right to the road as other users, but be pragmatic.
Try to keep calm and not react to intimidation
If you genuinely feel threatened you are entitled to defend yourself
If the other road user does something really dangerous or is a repeat offender you should report it. This is unlikely to result in a prosecution immediately but may influence if others report, or the offender is later involved in an incident.

You could say you'll help out with her frustration if there's any shape on her. ;)
  • Slowly come to a stop. Sit on the bike, facing forward, ignoring the car honking behind. Maintain your position until...

Maybe its not just Leeds but I'm not a small chap a bit slim, its not often someone wants to annoy me but, on the bike if it does get a bit close for comfort and there's a word to be had I've found they can't talk sense. Just thinkin i'm some greenpeace cyclist who will accept threats and dangerous driving (using car as weapon), they get away with it too much and i'm inclined to drop said motorists for i fekken hate bullys

Normally I would say just keep your cool, you are vulnerable and people are male chickens, but with a repeat offender possibly stop. Let them know the error of there ways, not confrontational just be assertive. There shouldn't be any justification for your safety. Completely unacceptable behaviour.

Follow him/her to their destination and have stiff words. Drivers standing outside of their vehicle tend to be a lot less bullish when accosted by an aggressive sweaty person wearing protective clothing than when they are in their cocoon. Contact the school, contact the police, citing fear for your safety. Make bullying you with a vehicle more trouble than its worth.

And for the rare other person, don't flinch, stay in primary. It may cause the driver to have a fit but they won't try to run you over.

Should start using my video cam again. Seeing more prize driving recently, including cockish driving by a large 4x4 today with what I believe to be this number platehttp://www.beefregistrations.co.uk/plates.php?ID=901 . Only saw the plate after the cockish driving, else I'd have known earlier to keep an eye out..

Heh, it's been spotted before and filed under "real chavish number plates"

My computer came up with a malware blocked warning on that first link so I'd advise against clicking on it.
  • I tried Nightingale Lane this morning, I was running late so had nothing to lose. Happy to avoid confrontation if possible, and this route is a steeper challenge (if shorter) than Richmond Hill. Wasn't overly quick up there (the KoM is 30s and I did it in 1m15s!) but I will try it again. The most annoying aspect to this route is getting out at the top, traffic seems to be worse for some reason.
