A question to Campagnolo

I’m not a small chap at 6ft 4 but generally I’m XL when its comes to bike clothing sizes……except when it comes to Campagnolo where I’m XXXL!

On a long sleeve jacket or Jersey this provides the necessary length, anything less and I feel like Britney Spears in a crop top. It’s a bit wide but its still a nice fit and I’m fine with this, I don’t care, it’s the same as an XL (or even L). The problem is the sleeves, they are so long I don’t really need gloves and I’m a fairly proportioned chap, i.e. my torso length is about average for my height.

So my question to Campagnolo is who the hell are they aiming XXXL at? I’ve been to Italy many times and yes generally they are not exactly ducking to go through doors but they also don’t have their knuckles scraping the floor. I can only assume Campy supply clothing to the chimps at the Zoo in Rome.

The bit of southern Italy I went to hardly drank beer and don't eat 4000 calories of fatty foods like most British do. I reckon they have less fat people, so a xxxl top to them is like a small top in the USA.

I have some Belgian shorts that are XXXXXL, I'm only a 32" waist!

Italian stuff is always small, not just Campag, I have a Versace suit that is XL and I'm normally a medium. that said the Campag T shirts seem to be there or thereabouts compared to English sizes...

That still wouldn't explain the overly long sleeves...

Have they? Damn, I liked their stuff, even with the dodgy sizing!

Shame really because I just got back into cycling and liked their stuff. Luckily I got a few more pieces of their stuff for nostalgia as well as for performance.

The Brits are probably (on average) somewhere in between continental Europe and the US in terms of size, i.e. not rake thin and not needing to be lifted out of their house with a crane, I guess this reflects our geographical location and the different cultural influences arising from that.

I'm fairly sure you're right that those really big sizes are aimed at bigger chaps here and our American cousins (note to avoid accusations defamation/slander - I'm more than certain there are plenty of healthy, svelte Yanks riding around).

Correct, I don't care about the sizing label, if it fits it fits, but can't work out who would have arms this long.

damn, the stuff is well made, chain reaction were knocking out some great deals a few days ago, managed to get something that was reviewed for at £100 for £35, even if the arms are a bit long!

Pity - didn't know that and just bought a decent pair of their longs. A bit of Googling found this:

Just roll them up and get on with it.

  • Just sent two very nice Campa tops back - too long in the arm. And I went for small.

Yes they have stopped manufacture now, think the 12/13 collections are the last ones. Great shame as bought campag clothing before and impressed with the quality. Just ordered some more, though.

Are the arms long when standing normally or when riding the bike? Sleeves and backs need to be a little long to allow for stretching out whilst on the bike.

I recall seeing a review of an Alfa Romeo car which mentioned a "typical Italian driving position suitable for an ape-like person with short legs and long arms", maybe they do have longer arms than those of us from further west?

Well thay have to eat spaghetti so it's advantageous to have longer arms :-)

Edit: Just to be completely clear this was very tongue in cheek - hence the LOL. No offence meant to anyone.

Don't be so racist, the longer arms are for more extravagant gesticultion whilst expressing ones self!
