How come the 2014 UK route gets announced, but generally we don't know next year's until October announcement the year before? Even then, it's usually just start and end town and the actual route comes much later?

Woo hoo! Stage 1 finishes about a 5 minute walk from my parents in law's house. Stage 2 starts where I got married and goes through the town I was born in. Stage 3 passes within 10 miles of where I live. Seriously, how good is that?!

Excited already. The 2007 TdF prologue was magic.

Dilemma for Rick, though. Does he watch the start of stage 3 in Cambridge or the finish in dear old london town?

Those are nice routes. The route from Kettlewell to Aysgarth is a nice climb without being silly and they've still got Buttertubs for a proper workout. Some options for Knaresborough to Silsden and the climb from Haworth over to Hebden Bridge is excellent.

Scarborough will be p1ssed though

So Stage 3 comes right past my front door and then pretty much does my commute.
  • Bugger. I thought it was taking in the N.Y moors/coast through my home town. Oh well, I'll still have a trip and show wifey the dales instead.

  • More details on Yorkshire Grand Depart on their new website. Makes a nice change to have something like this on my doorstep. Where are people planning to view from?

    Some better maps here:

If correct then the last 20km of stage two is pretty evil, lots of very sharp corners climbs and drops. Passes a few hundred yards from my house, hope to see it on Jawbone hill.

Do I watch it in Epping, the Olympic Park or the mall - decisions, decisions.

The Mall may be a circuit which would give it the edge (probably not, but you never know). I'll be on stage 3 by then, will be happy with any bit of roadside!

I will be watching it in Cambridge for obvious reasons.
